Hyderabad: The Telugu Desam Party members are a worried lot. the slipping grip of its chief Chandrababu Naidu and the entry of film star Chiranjeevi into the political arena is certainly making them jittery.
The TDP's mega rally in Guntur on Wednesday witnessed members of the NTR clan being roped in to boost the popularity of the party.
This is regarded by some as an effort to counter Chiranjeevi's popularity.
"We are expecting a huge crowd that will break our own record," promised Chandrababu Naidu.
Caught between a strong Congress chief minister Dr YSR Reddy and a new entrant Chiranjeevi, Naidu is now moving earth and heaven to remain relevant to politics.
He is no longer a man of steel as he used to be considered before.
Visibly nervous, he now reaches out to the very people whom he had kept at a safe distance during his nine-year-long rule as chief minister of Andhra Pradesh.
This time, the crowd pullers at his meetings are NTR's son Balakrishna and NTR's grandsons. All of these are all popular Tollywood actors.
"To save the fame of the legendary NTR's party Telugu Desam, the family has come together on this stage for you," he appealed to the people.
It was a public display of the family's bonding as Naidu shared the stage with NTRs sons Balakrishna & Harikrishna alongwith grandsons Tarakaratna & Kalyan Ram.
On his part, Balakrishna delivered his trademark high voltage dialogues, giving the crowd what they had come to see.
"Who am I? I am not a Kapu or Kamma or BC or any other caste. I'm yours. I am Balakrishna," he said to complete the act.
However, NTR's daughter and central minister D Purandareshwari has cautioned her brothers and advised them to stay away from Naidu.
