HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam is ready to pronounce its stand on the Telangana statehood demand if the central government seeks its opinion, Telangana Telugu Desam Forum convener E Dayakar Rao has said.
Talking with reporters here on Monday, he said the TDP was committed to  Telangana statehood. “Our party president N Chandrababu Naidu has made it clear that he is not against the demand for separate Telangana. We are ready to announce our stand on Telangana if the Centre asks us for it,” he said.
TTDF leaders called on Naidu and later met at NTR Bhavan to discuss the strategy to be adopted in the Parkal Assembly byelection. They decided to expose the Congress and the TRS in the bypoll alleging that the Congress hoodwinked the people of the region and the non-serious TRS chief was taking rest at his farmhouse.
TDP candidate Dharma Reddy will file his papers on May 23. Later, party chief N Chandrababu Naidu will address an election meeting.
The TDP is taking the Parkal byelection as a challenge and using all its energies to win the seat. Initially, the party decided not to enter the fray in case the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee fielded its  candidate. TJAC chairman M Kodandaram should spell out why the TJAC failed to field its candidate, Dayakar Rao demanded.
Accusing the TRS and Congress of collusion, he said the TRS chief did not utter a word against AICC president Sonia Gandhi in Parliament and was now taking rest at a farmhouse. The TRS was collecting crores of rupees in the name of Parakal election, he alleged.
Dayakar Rao recalled that Gadar, Vimalakka, Chukka Ramaiah, Manda Krishna and other leaders, who were committed to Telangana, distanced themselves from the TJAC. Besides, 18 student JACs in Kakatiya University boycotted the student wing of the TRS. “The people of Parkal are for the victory of TDP candidate Dharma Reddy,” he claimed and announced that his party would appoint an in-charge for every village in the Parkal constituency and organise a youth convention in Parakal on May 20.
