Hyderabad: The Opposition parties in Andhra Pradesh have started an agitation seeking adequate power supply to farmers.

On Thursday, CPM workers vandalised the Ranga Reddy district collectorate while Telegu Desam Party (TDP) workers stopped traffic on Kurnool and Tirupathy highways. But the TDP says it is just the beginning.

“We are going to fight, put pressure on government to give proper power supply for farmers,” says TDP president, Chandrababu Naidu.

Over the past fortnight, there has been an increase in power cuts in the state.

“We hardly get current for four hours. I’ve asked my MLA several times but he never responded. My land is all dry,” says a farmer, Lachanna

“There is no food, no rain and all our farms are dry. Migrations to Hyderabad have increased. There are many farmers who are dying due to hunger. A farmer died in brahimpatnam yesterday,” says another farmer, Gopalan Ambarabad

The Opposition is planning more protests as they try to put the Congress government on the mat. The Telangana Rashtra Samiti, which was once part of the UPA government at the Centre, is planning a dharna from Toomukunta to Manchiryala on Friday.

The party says more than two lakh farmers will come out and cook food on roads to register their protest.
