Teacher gives electric shock to kids, out on bail

Jalgaon (Maharashtra): Handcuffed and shamed Sumant Mishra, a teacher, lost his job after he was accused of giving electric shock, using a laboratory instrument, to 16 students of eighth and ninth standards in Central Railway English School because they were not paying attention in class.

“We have received the complaint about electric shocks being given. We are looking into the matter,” Jalgaon SP, Shantaram Waghire said.

Principal of the school N M Joshi said that an inquiry committee has been set up to look into the incident. “We will be meeting with the parents soon and the teacher has been suspended.”

Shocked students, who are yet to get over the trauma, reported the matter to their parents, who in turn approached the police.

The students say Mishra threatened to throw them out of the classroom window if they complained to anyone.

Meanwhile, police have filed charges of causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means and criminal intimidation against him. Mishra is currently now out on bail.
