Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala police now have enough reasons to believe that it was not just religion that inspired the attack on the professor in Thodupuzha.
The meticulous planing that went into the attack and the way the assailants could give the cops the slip, in spite of Pofessor Joseph being closely watched by the cops, has made police draw some crucial conclusions.
Jacob Punnose, DGP of Kerala, said: "From our investigations so far, it's very evident that it's a well planned operation, spending a lot of money. It's not an amateur work. There is lot of thinking gone into how to hide the trail to the culprits which shows it's a highly professional work."
The worst fear of the Kerala police is that the religious fundamentalism is on the rise and the state is becoming increasingly unsafe. In a separate incident on Thursday, a passenger train's brake pipes were cut at almost 20 places in Nilambur.
Police say it was nothing but an attempt to sabotage. On the same day, gelatine sticks were recovered from a different train in the state, all pointing fingers at meticuluos planning.
Sethuraman, Superintendent of Police of Malapuram, said: "We cannot rule out sabotage. This a well planned activity. We have got some leads. We will get to the bottom of it."
Meanwhile, one person has been held by the police while trying to meet the professor who is recovering in the hospital. Police teams also carried out raids in different offices of the Popular Front.
Intelligence sources say a number of important documents have also been siezed from them.
