New Delhi: Gloom prevails at the residence of Satya Prakash. It was a kind of death, no one would have ever imagined.

Fourteen-year-old Ajay died after he was allegedly slapped by a teacher — all because he signed over the teacher's signature. He was studying at the Government-run Rajkiya Sarvodaya Higher Secondary school in east Delhi.

Ajay's brother, Neeraj Kumar says, "The teacher slapped him near the end of his ear."

The impact of the beating was such that Ajay was left paralysed. His condition slowly deteriorated and he died on Tuesday — after two weeks of paralysis — on the operation table in St Stephen's hospital in north Delhi.

The family is still shocked at the school's attitude and claim Ajay could have survived if the school authorities had acted in time.

Ajay's father, Satya Prakash says, "Their attitude was disappointing. None of them took Ajay to the hospital. He just kept lying there in that condition until we came and took him to the hospital."

While the family is still trying to come to terms with what happened, the police have registered a case under IPC Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) against the teacher.

However, no arrests have been made so far, though the Delhi government has ordered an enquiry into the matter.
