Nandan Kanan (Orissa): Soon after being released from jail, Ramsingh Munda along with his daughter travelled 300 km to the Nandankanan zoo in Bhubaneswar to meet Rani, the bear cub who was seperated from them a week ago by the Orissa forestry department.
Rani has reportedly not been eating properly since the separation.
"I felt so bad seeing her caged. In my house she used to play around and was very happy. I am ready to serve in Nandankanan and take care of Rani and other animals if I am given the chance,” said Munda.
But his offer to work at the Nandankanan Zoo and be near Rani was not considered by the zoo authorities.
“Since there are legal restrictions on appointing any new person in the zoo, it would not be possible to employ Ramsingh,” said Deputy Director, Nandankanan Zoo, SN Mahapatra.
But some animal rights activists have been so moved by their special bond that they have now arranged a job for Ramsingh and a school for his daughter in Bhubaneswar itself.
