Mumbai: When students in hostel rooms pour over complex circuitry and weird looking machines do the rounds of hostel corridors, it's that time of the year when the IIT Bombay celebrates it's annual competition for technical and mechanical wizadry.

It’s called the Tech Fest and this year too, it's only gotten bigger. "It's bigger and better than last time with prize money as much as Rs 7 lakh,” said organizing committee member of the Tech Fest, Vivek Subramanium.

With heavy-weight sponsors and a budget close to Rs 70 lakh, events linger between pure Science Fiction as much as the ‘whacky'.

“It gives us a much needed exposure," says a participant, Rohan Chavan. "We get to learn from other people as well and there is exposure to companies and corporates," says another participant, Navya Reddy.

From amphibious crafts that can navigate on land as coolly as it would on water, to workshops as well as competitions on coding and searching radio sources, the Tech Fest '07 from January 26 to 28, definitely promises an adrenalin rush for the ardent tech geek.
