Techie kills wife, commits suicide in Bangalore

Bangalore: An engineer who worked with software giant Infosys murdered his wife and then committed suicide in Bangalore on Saturday night.

Amit Budhiraj, 30, strangled his wife, Rinku, because he suspected she was having an affair, said police. Budhiraj strangled Rinku, 28, with a pillow and then hung himself in their home in upscale Koramangala.

IANS reports Rinku was to go to a movie with a friend on Sunday morning but when there was no response to repeated phone calls, the house owner, who stays on the ground floor, was alerted and the police were informed.

The police entered the first-floor house with the help of a duplicate key the house owner had.

Police found a note written by Budhiraj in which he said that he was frustrated by Rinku’s refusal to end her affair. The couple had been married for almost a year, said police.

Budhiraj was from Delhi and Rinku, a marketing professional, was from Mumbai. Budhiraj had been living in Bangalore for four years.

Gopal Hosur, Joint Commissioner of Police, told CNN-IBN the police believe Budhiraja wrote the suicide note and they don’t suspect “foul play” in the deaths.

“The suicide note indicates that Budhiraja murdered her and subsequently committed suicide. This was because of the matrimonial discord that they had,” said Hosur.

Police are waiting for the couple’s families to arrive in Bangalore before they begin an autopsy. The families have been informed and are on their way to Bangalore.
