India Broadcast News

Birmingham: A teenager was shot dead in Birmingham, England, close to the scene of weekend rioting.

The 18-year old youth suffered fatal gunshot wounds, though police said it was unclear whether the killing was related to the disturbances.

Two men have been arrested in connection with the shooting of the 18-year-old.

British policemen are patrolling the streets of Birmingham, trying to stop fresh violence from breaking out.

Over 30 people were injured, including a police officer in the Saturday night violence, which broke out after a public meeting was held to condemn an unconfirmed attack on a 14-year-old Jamaican girl.

The alleged assault had sparked a clash between the Black and Asian communities in the Lozells area.

Shops and pubs were ransacked and cars set on fire during the clash which is thought to have involved up to 50 rioters.

Five people were arrested in connection with the disorder.
