Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief K Chandrasekhar Rao's son KT Rama Rao, his daughter and several other pro-Telangana activists were taken into preventive custody on Saturday ahead of the three-day rail roko campaign across the state. Some protesters have also been detained for trying to block the tracks at Hyderabad's Sitafal Mandi station.
On Friday, the police vowed to take tough action against protestors who resorted to violence.
Over 250 trains will be affected and the railways has already announced the cancellation of 174 trains and on Saturday. In addition to these, the routes of as many as 68 trains were diverted. Services in sectors like Secunderabad-Kazipet and Vijayawada-Ballarshah could be hit.
PTI quoted TRS sources as saying that party president K Chandrasekhar Rao has called on all ministers to quit in support of a separate statehood. Congress MPs from the region are defying the party diktat and protesting as well.
