New Delhi: Weeks of unrest over Telangana and Andhra Pradesh has paid a hefty price. The latest casualty is the second India-Sri Lanka ODI at Vishakhapatnam. The match on December 18 will now be played at Nagpur.
"It will be a logistical problem, but we could not have had the match in Vizag due the circumstances there," says BCCI Chief Administrative Officer, Ratnakar Shetty.
And it's not just play, but work too, which has been dulled by Telangana.
Andhra Pradesh's business community has lost crores of rupees in the past couple of weeks.
The pharmaceutical sector is staring at a loss of over Rs 400 crore and GlaxoSmithKline has even halted operations. The big worry for businessmen presently are calls for a week long commercial bandh in coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Secretary, Vishakhapatnam IT Association, O Naresh Kumar says, "US or European customers are not bothered about Telengana or Andhra. They are just bothered about whether the work is being done or not. If they find that work is suffering for weeks and days, they will immediately move out of India."
Andhra Pradesh has grown as a pharma and IT hub in the past four years but the Telangana protest could deepy hurt the economic powerhouse.
