Telangana: Osmania students take out rally

Hyderabad: Tension prevailed in the Osmania University campus on Monday when Telangana Students tried to take out a "Chalo Assembly" rally which was prevented by police.

A large number of slogan shouting students tried to rush towards the main gate of Osmania University (OU) where lathi wielding police personnel stopped them.

Police used force when another group of students pelted stones at them when they were stopped rushing towards assembly at Adikmet flyover, a police officer said.

The call for 'Chalo Assembly' was given by the Telangana Students of Joint Action Committee (JAC) in support of demand for statehood to Telangana.

Pro-Telanagana advocates also tried to storm Governor ESL Narasimhan's house as a part of their protests.

Meanwhile, a group of Telangana supporters attacked railway station at Necklace road here damaging window panes. However, the police chased them away.

In view of the rally, the city police has imposed traffic restrictions causing inconvenience to public.
