Telgi convicted in fake stamp paper case

New Delhi: Scamster Abdul Karim Telgi and nine others were Thursday convicted in yet another multi-million rupee fake stamp paper case by a court in New Delhi.

Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjay Bansal pronounced the conviction.

Telgi deposed before the court via teleconferencing from a jail in Bangalore.

A special sessions court in Bangalore had sentenced Telgi to seven years' rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 125,000 earlier this month in another case connected to the fake stamp paper racket.

Telgi was also sentenced in June 2007 to 13 years in jail with a fine of Rs.2.02 billion (Rs.202 crore) on various counts in a case related to the scam by the special court for Maharashtra Control of Organised Crimes Act (MCOCA).
