North-India braces itself for winters

New Delhi: Temperatures are beginning to get lower across North India and the Meteorological Department predicts that winter is just a few weeks away. And people all across the North are welcoming the change in season.

Late evenings and early mornings are misty and it will soon be time to pull out the woollens.

"It's suddenly become cold and one needs a jacket now," says a resident of Delhi.

I've started wearing half sleeved sweaters and will need a pullover soon," says another Delhi resident.

Jammu and Kashmir is already feeling the chill and people are stocking up on sweaters and shawls. Kangri sellers are making brisk sales as the demand for these traditional firepots is up in anticipation of the cold.

The rest of the North though will still have to wait a while before the actual winter sets in.

"The exact date can't be predicted, it is a gradual change. We are now in that stage when it is changing from summer to winter," says Met Dept's B P Yadav.

However, for now everyone is only too happy to bid adieu to the heat.

"Winter is beautiful, summer is awful. And I'm looking forward to winters," says a resident of Delhi.
