Terminated Jet employees protest in Mumbai, D

CNN-IBN

Mumbai: The terminated employees of Jet Airways continued their protests in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore on Thursday.

They had blocked ticket counters at the domestic airport in Delhi.

The clearest signal that the party is over for India's aviation sector. Any hope that these jet airways employees, sacked overnight on Tuesday, has dried up.

Another 1,900 are said to be on the firing line. Jet and Kingfisher had asked for a 5000 crore rupee interest free loan from the government to tide over the turbulence and some reduction of taxes, but no good news came its way.

All that the agitated employees who lost their jobs was some sympathetic words.

Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister, Murli Deora says, “I would just humbly request Vijay Mallya and Naresh Goyal to see the people don't go out of jobs.

Union Labour Minister Oscar Fernandes says, “There is a problem in the aviation industry, especially in Jet, I am definitely looking into that.”

The Jet employees turned to Raj Thackeray's MNS for help, but that will simply not be enough to get their jobs back.

For Jet's ex-employees it's a choice between a rock and a hard place. Even as riot control police kept a tight control of the situation, political parties rushed in to gain mileage out of the protests but didn't yield much result.

The Jet debacle seems to be just the tip of the iceberg, with other airline managements too indicating that job cuts are inevitable as fear is grips the Indian skies.
