Terror outfits in J-K recruiting teens

New Delhi: A class XI student in Jammu and Kashmir has been arrested after he attempted to lob a grenade at a Army vehicle.

The 17-year-old allegedly had been working for an outfit of the terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).

Pakistani SIM card was also recovered from him.

The boy, Kamran Raza was arrested after he tried to lob a grenade at an Army vehicle in Poonch last week.

The boy panicked at the last moment and forgot to remove the grenade pin.

“I was asked to throw grenade on the vehicle. I was given a grenade and asked to take out the pin and throw it. While I was doing it, I could not take the pin out as I was overcome with fear. Then I started running,” said Kamran Raza.

The boy was caught by alert Armymen. He confessed that JeM commander Abu Dawood had promised to pay him after the attack.

Senior officers say militant outfits have been constantly recruiting teenagers.

In 2007, over 40 teenaged children were recruited by Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) had been rescued by the police in Doda.

.

The DIG of Poonch, Kamal Sanini said, “Instances of militants using young kids have come to light. Kids are being used and students are being exploited.”

With numbers of terrorist outfits dwindling, these vulnerable minds come in handy for quick damage at low costs.

This trend could perhaps be checked by better education and more employment.
