Goa: The Christmas season in Goa this year is not all that festive. With the terror threat looming over the tourist hot spot business is bad this year.
Paramilitary personnel patrolling around Tito's nightclub along Baga Beach, this is perhaps the defining image of Goa this year. The gun literally looms over the Party.
In fact the management at the party hot spot is worried about heavy security keeping the crowds away.
CISF man to CNN-IBN: Mere peeche kyon pada hai? Udhar bahut hain. unka kheench. (Why are you after me there are other people, catch them.)
But if you had visions of a great party inside, meet 24-year-old Vishal Shah who is more than just a little disappointed.
Vishal says, “It’s totally empty. It’s like barren. You can only see the lights and the music, there is no public over here.”
Another tourist Nikhil Shah says, "No paisa vasool (There is no value of money this year)."
And it isn't just the nightclubs that are affected.
Normally at this time of the year it is very difficult to get a single empty table at the restaurants in Goa. But with the tale of how those terror attacks may not even happen but the fear has certainly killed this year’s season.
John Henriques, who has been running the restaurant for the last 16 years, hopes the season will get it's second wind in January.
John says, " This season has been really low, my restaurant used to be full buy this time. Right now it’s half."
Even the small time salesman hasn't been spared. Meet Rajesh Narvekar, he deals with pirated CDs. He normally makes a killing selling trance music along Anjuna beach. This year he's still waiting for his clients to show up.
Rajesh says, "Is saal to Vaat lag gayi Bhai (This year we are doing no business at all).”
