Bangalore: Bangalore University plans to bring students, who take long leave and spend lavishly, under its scanner. The move comes in the wake of the arrest of terror suspect Shoaib Mirza, a final year MCA student at Al-Ameen College recently.

Speaking to Express, Vice-Chancellor Dr N Prabhu Dev said, “Looking at the recent developments which show that students are allegedly involved in terror activities, I recommend that absentee students should be watched. The college authorities or the parents of such students should be aware of their activities.”

He noted that even the activities of spendthrifts would be watched. “If students spend more, there is nothing to worry. But if money is coming from unknown sources, then it is something to worry,” he said. “I will meet the Police Commissioner and chalk out modalities to come up with a circular which will be sent to colleges,” he stated.
