Mumbai: The police have now arrested one more person including two builders, the local corporator, an Assistant Sub Inspector, a Suspended Deputy Commissioner and also an Assistant Commissioner of the Thane Municipality in the Thane building collapse. The eight people have been charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act and for criminal conspiracy in the tragedy which led to death of 73 people.
They eight accused were produced in court on Sunday morning and were sent to police custody till April 20. District officials are now mapping the area as there's been a tussle between the forest department and the Thane municipal corporation over the land.

304 - Culpable homicide
120(B) - Criminal conspiracy
34 - Common intent
308 - Attempt to commit culpable homicide
336 - Act endangering life and personal safety of others
337 - Causing act by act endangering life and personal safety of others
338 - Causing grievous hurt act endangering life and personal safety of others

Meanwhile, authorities have begun a drive to demolish illegal structures the heavily populated Mumbra area in Thane. Seventy three people have died and more than 60 injured in Maharashtra's worst ever building collapse in decades.
It took a building collapse and the death of 73 people for the Thane Municipal Corporation to crack the whip on illegal buildings. The big question remains what prevented the Municipal Corporation from taking action before the building came down.
