Mumbai: Thane Commissioner of Police KP Raghuvanshi on Sunday said that nine people have been arrested in the building collapse that led to death of 74 people and injured over 60 and sent to police custody till April 20. Raghuivanshi also said that one of the builders was nabbed in UP and the other in Thane. "We have also arrested some public servants who were involved in this. The builders had bribed them," said Raghuvanshi.
The builders had bribed some government officials and the investigation is on, he added. Promising action against all the accused, Raghuvanshi said, "Who ever is responsible for this building collapse incident even if they are government officials will be brought to justice."
The police have so far arrested nine people including two builders, the local corporator, an Assistant Sub Inspector, a Suspended Deputy Commissioner and also an Assistant Commissioner of the Thane Municipality in the Thane building collapse.
Meanwhile, district officials are now mapping the area as there's been a tussle between the forest department and the Thane municipal corporation over the land.
Seventy three people have died and more than 60 injured in Maharashtra's worst ever building collapse in decades.
It took a building collapse and the death of 74 people for the Thane Municipal Corporation to crack the whip on illegal buildings. The big question remains what prevented the Municipal Corporation from taking action before the building came down.
