Thar Express stranded by floods

Jaipur: The death toll in the floods in Rajasthan has reached 24 even as rains continue in many parts of the state.

The India-Pakistan Thar Express stranded in the rising waters with 410 passengers on board since Sunday morning.

According to Railway sources, the train was delayed as soil under the rail line was washed away due to heavy rains.

Sources said the train was stopped at Jasai railway station near Barmer and renewed its journey for Barmer after the rail line was repairing.

Eight of the worst affected districts in the state are Kota, Jhalawar, Sirohi, Pali, Udaipur, Dungarpur, Banswara and Chittorgarh.

Pali district has reported the maximum number of nine casualties. Three members of a family were killed in Bhilwara district due to house collapse.

Dungarpur, Banswara, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand and Barmer district have reported one death each. Sihori and Jalore districts have reported two flood related deaths.

In Udaipur, the flood situation continues to be grim with about fifty per cent of the city under water. The rivers and dams were in spate due to continuing rain.

Army personnel were engaged in relief and rescue operations. Salumber tehsil in Udaipur district has cut off due to over flowing waters from the Jaisamand lake.
