New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh inducted as many as 29 MPs - veterans as well as youngsters - in their first ever role as Central ministers on Thursday as part of his 78-member-strong council of ministers.

Notable amongst them was former UN undersecretary general Shashi Tharoor, former chief ministers Vilasrao Deshmukh and Farooq Abdullah as well as three women MPs - Agatha Sangma, Krishna Tirath and Preneet Kaur.

CNN-IBN caught up with the accomplished diplomat who spoke of his dreams for his constituency.

CNN-IBN: Mr Tharoor, do you believe that the call to you from the Prime minister's office is a recognition and possibly expertise?

Shashi Tharoor: I would not say that. I mean, the Prime Minister is in the best position to speak on what criteria he felt was necessary. But he has made it very clear right from the first day that we all gathered in the office of the Congress Parliamentary party, that he is looking for action. He is looking for a government that delivers results and I hope that that's one of the qualities he saw in me in coming and joining his team. I am very, very privileged and proud to be a part of it. As a Member of the Parliament I do have a continuing obligation to my own voters in my own constituency. There is a great deal that needs to be done. It's a neglected constituency. I do not want Thiruvananthapuram or the backwaters of Kerala to be itself the backwatesr of India's development. I want there to be clarification on a number of issues that need clarification. I intend to knock on a few doors of other ministers of Delhi and seek their help on a number of pending projects. I have a vision that Trivandrum should become a global city.
