The F1 Championship mathematics: who stands where

IBNLive Sports | Updated Oct 15, 2012 at 05:51pm IST

With four races — Indian, Abu Dhabi, United States and Brazilian Grand Prix — to go, it's boiling down to between Red Bull and Ferrari for both the Drivers and Constructors championship in the 2012 Formula One season. Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel is leading the championship table with 215 points while Ferrari's Fernando Alonso has 209, which guarantees a battle between the two F1 giants in the final four races of the season, as the third-placed Kimi Raikonnen of Lotus is way behind at 167 points.

In the Constructor's standings, Red Bull (367 points) are being closely challenged by second-placed Ferrari (290 points) and McLaren at third (284 points), but it will take Ferrari some catching after Vettel won the Korean GP on Sunday to extend the lead to 77 points.

Red Bull's domination once again came to the fore on Sunday after Vettel crossed the chequered flag first in Yeongnam to leapfrog Alonso at the top of the table. After winning the last two races in Singapore and then in Japan, Vettel has shifted gears smoothly, albeit a little late in the season, to come back in reckoning. Vettel's team-mate Mark Webber, who started on pole at the Korean GP, finished second and secured 18 points - the first Red Bull one-two of the season.

The F1 mathematics: who stands where

In the Constructor\'s standings, Red Bull (367 points) are being closely challenged by second-placed Ferrari (290 points).

Ferrari have been unlucky in this season as Alonso was the victim of first—lap collisions in Belgium and Japan, and his last first-place finish being the German GP. Alonso's Ferrari team-mate Felipe Massa, who finished second at Suzuka last weekend, continued his resurgence with a fourth-place finish at Yeongam.

Sahara Force India's Nico Hulkenberg battled through the 55-lap race to finish sixth in Korea. He is at the 12th spot currently in the drivers' championship with 45 points. Hulkenberg's team- mate Paul di Resta is a place below at 44 points. The team co-owned by business magnate Vijay Mallya is in the seventh place in the constructors' championship with 89 points.
