Mumbai: Manoj Night Shyamalan is back with his latest - The last Airbender. This one's based on a popular animated Nickleodeon TV series called Avtaar: The Last Airbender. Interestingly Shyamalan discovered it all, thanks to his kids.
Director, The Last Airbender M Night Shyamalan said, “I hadn’t thought it as a movie when I saw it first. My kids watched and the first time it came on, they watched it with my mom and she was screaming like this is Hindu philosophy, they are stealing our philosophy. She was outraged...in a good way. The fire, the earth and the fire, this is us. I was like ok mom, its ok and a year later I thought about making it as a movie.”
Though Slumdog Millionair-fame Dev Patel doesn't feature in this trailer, but The Last Airbender will be his first big release post-Slumdog Millionair-. Dev plays the evil Prince Zuko, the firebender who can manipulate fire. The story is set in a world where the human civilization is divided into four nations: fire, earth, water and air.
Shyamalan said, It has almost everything that I love. It has other philosophy and religion. Hindu philosophy, Buddhist philosophy, lot of Buddhist in it, martial art, CGI, genocide, deep subjects are talked about and mythology on the scale of star wars and so it has supernaturals of course.”
The Last Airbender is the first of the triology planned by Shyamalan and is set to hit the theatres in July 2010.
