Comedian Mike Myers' new movie The Love Guru will hit theatres in the US this Friday. But it's already raised the hackles of some Hindu organisations in the US, who say it portrays a 'Guru' in a derogatory light. Myers clears the air on the controversy.
Indira Kannan: You must be aware that there are some Hindu groups here in the US who have objected to what they consider offensive potrayal of Hinduism, how would you respond to that?
Mike Myers: I would say this, it's one guy who has not seen the movie and when he sees the movie he will see that this is a mythical non-denominational belief system like how 'the force' is in Star Wars. I've never done anything from the place except love. When I did Austin Powers it's because I love James Bond movies. I love the lyrical poetic wisdom of the east. My delivery system is silly comedy, I love silly and to be enlightened is to lighten up.
