Puri (Orissa):. The nine-day long chariot festival concluded at Puri on Tuesday.
After a week’s rest at the Gundicha Temple, Lord Jaganat, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subbhadra, began their way back to the main temple.
Thousands of devotees joined in the celebrations with explosions of sounds and colours when the deities were carried to their respective chariots.
Said Jagannath devote, Puri, Soumendra Muduli, “They are going back to their native place that Sri Mandira, the main purpose of this car festival is to offer Darshan those who are permitted inside the temple.”
Lakhs of devotees participated in the festival marking the return of the chariots, or Bahuda Yatra.
Fifty-eight-year-old Malini Seshadri from Tamil Nadu who was one of them said, “Puri is famous for Rath Yatra we are excited about seen such a huge chariot with lot of people there very nice felling, we feel blessed to be here.”
Many other devotees like Malini accompanied the chariot on its three km journey to the Jagannath Temple, chanting, singing and dancing to the beat of cymbals and drums.
However, the Gods still have to wait till Saturday before they can re-enter the temple.
