The Simpsons Movie has the same charm as the show

Direction: David Silverman

If you're a fan of the enormously successful television show, then you'll be happy to know that The Simpsons Movie has checked into the multiplexes this week, it's the big-screen version of the long-running TV show that features Amercia's most dysfunctional family.

Now the reason The Simpsons isn't your typical children's animated show is because it's really not for little children at all. It's actually a very smart, very clever show that's filled with political jokes and tongue-in-cheek comments on relevant issues.

The film too, is on similar lines. But giving away the plot of the film amounts to sacrilege because there's no way one can talk about the film's storyline or its premise without giving away many of the jokes.

Let me instead tell you that the film often comes across as a much longer television episode, because it's got the same wit and charm as the show. I'm not sure the film will appeal to those completely unfamiliar with the mad, mad world of the Simpsons, because the humour could easily come across as a little off, a little elitist. But for fans, this is exactly what a TV-to-film adaptation should be like.

How can you argue with Homer Simpson's twisted humour? He sums up the scenario perfectly when he delivers what I'm sure will go on to become the film's most frequently repeated line: "I can't believe anyone would pay to see what we did on TV for free." Trust me, this one you'd pay to see.
