New Delhi: It is pure magic. Even as its brilliance is hidden by the moon, the sun looks as majestic as ever during a solar eclipse. From Russia to New Delhi, the world will witness this spectacle on August 1.
While a total eclipse can be seen in Canada, Greenland, the Arctic and Russia, India will view a partial eclipse between between 1600 hrs IST and 1800 hrs IST in the evening on Friday.
- In Delhi, the eclipse will start at 16:03 hrs IST and end at 17:56 hrs IST. It will be maximum at 17:02 hrs IST.
- In Mumbai, it will from 16:27 hrs IST to 18:03 hrs IST.
- In Chennai it will be visible from 16:40 hrs IST to 18:07 hrs IST.
- In Kolkata the eclipse will be seen between 16:18 hrs IST and 18:02 hrs IST.
A scientist, Professor Yashpal says, "An eclipse is an absolutely beautiful thing. It becomes dark, the birds think its night and they fly back home as do animals. There's a fantastic ripple advancing on the ground."
A solar eclipse draws everybody, from the devout taking a holy dip to school children with their pinhole cameras. It is also a time when any astrologer worth his salt has a prediction.
Astrologer Devendra Mishra says, "It will bring good tidings for Taurians, Virgos, Libras and Aquarians. For the rest, it is not a good sign as it hinders work."
Scientists say with years, the moon will go further away and one day will never be able to cover the sun and that means no solar eclipse for us, that is of course, if we live that long. Till then let's enjoy this great phenomenon.
