Kolkata: What happens when 42 theatre persons from 14 different countries get together in a quaint village in Bengal?
They make a heady cultural cocktail for sure but that's not all.
A workshop being hosted by a theatre group called Jana Sanskriti is being held as part of a month-long celebration of the theatre of the oppressed, a movement which started in Brazil.
"I am enjoying my first trip to India. It’s the first time I’m doing something like this. It gives me the opportunity to discuss with a lot of people in a foreign language, not only in French,” says a French participant, Federick.
While they learn the tricks of taking theatre to the oppressed, they want to make the most of their trip to India.
So, while one participant hums a Bengali song, another, learns to eat fish and rice with his fingers.
Finally, it's time again for some serious practice and they rehearse for a week more before they meet their Indian counterparts.
