Rahul Mahajan: At around 7 or 7:30 am that day, all the phones in the house started ringing. Poonam called up and said to me that dad had been shot. I was thinking then that this happens to other people. How could it have happened in my family. How could he have been shot and it was so early in the morning. When I reached the emergency room of the hospital, I just swung away from him. There was blood all over him and the doctors were putting an oxygen mask on him.
Rahul Mahajan: A couple of hours went by. I heard snatches of conversation, people saying that he had been hit with three bullets. The next day I went to the hospital and his eyes were open. He smiled at me and I told him, 'Don't worry dad. You will be fine. The whole country is praying for you.' That was the last time he spoke. Then a couple of days later doctors called me and said that spend as much time as you can with your father.
