New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal's political alternative's name was revealed on Saturday and its going to be the Aam Aadmi Party. Aam Aadmi Party or AAP - finally, the party that was borne out of the anti-graft movement was named. One month and twenty two days after Arvind Kejriwal announced his plunge into politics, more than 300 people became members of the party.
The name has already ruffled the party that first coined the 'aam admi' slogan. Union Minister Manish Tewari said the Congress has a bond with the aam aadmi and no one can challenge that. Kejriwal apart, prominent figures of the National Council of the party are Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav.
Significantly, Shanti Bhushan though is missing from the council since the Aadmi Admi Party claims it will steer clear of dynastic rule. The Aam Aadmi Party will have a National Coordinator instead of a Party president or general secretary. In an effort to keep its structure lean, the party says it won't have too many committees.
On November 26, the National executive will meet to elect the political affairs committee and the national coordinator. For a party that promises self rule, electoral reforms and effective anti corruption law, the first test would be the Delhi elections. Results of that will also determine its strategy in 2014 elections.
