Mumbai: The budget of the film Bheja Fry was Rs 60 lakh. Now, the television rights of the film have been sold for Rs 1.2 crore and home video rights for Rs 1.5 crore.
Meanwhile, the net gross box office collection by sixth week is Rs 7.5 crore (source: boxofficeindia.com) and Bheja Fry is still making money in its eighth week.
The figures are hard to believe. More so, because the film had no big stars, no big stunts and no hit song.
With its success, life has changed for its 32-year-old director Sagar Bellary who has recently signed a three-film deal with Sahara Motion Pictures.
He also has a dozen more offers and is meeting six-seven producers every day.
“After Bheja Fry, every small person who has got Rs 1 crore or Rs 50 lakh in his pocket wants to make a film. Everyone wants to be film producer. Everyone got that confidence and faith that they can also do it. I am very happy that this has happened. You don’t have to depend on traditional film producers to make a film,” said Bellary.
Riding on the success of the first film, not just a sequal but a ‘threequal’ is already in works.
“Bheja Fry 3 is concrete. We know what it will be. But we don’t know what Bheja Fry 2 will be. There are few ideas which we are working on, two few good ideas which we are working on. It could be that or something else. We know that after serving such a good dish, we can’t spoil the next dish,” said Bellary.
When the man who turned his debut film into one of the year’s biggest hits gives tips, you better take notes.
“Take a good genre. Your film technique should be very correct. The screenplay should be very good. Everything else will fall in place,” advised Bellary.
Before he fries your bheja again, the young director is all set to serve you Kaccha Limboo, a story of a 13-year-old fat boy.
