Thiruvananthapuram: A 21-year-old youth was hacked to death by a gang at Nedumcaud near Karamana in the wee hours of Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Saji from Thirumala. The youth was first seen lying injured near Nedumcaud school by a newspaper boy, who informed the matter to the Karamana police. The police first thought that the youth was inebriated. But when they arrived on the spot, they found that he was lying in a pool of blood. The police immediately called an ambulance and shifted him to the Medical College Hospital.

The youth, in a statement given to the police at the hospital, said that he was attacked by a gang of three to four persons. He died soon after reaching the hospital. Karamana SI V Ashoka Kumar said, "It appears to be case of murder but nothing can be said right now.” It is learned that Saji had suffered multiple injuries. Going by the nature of injuries, the police are investigating the role of professional gangs in the killing.

Police sources told City Express that they suspect Saji was a member of the Choozhattukotta Ambily gang. Chuzhattukotta Ambily, who rose to notoriety after carrying out the brutal killing of Motta Ani, another gangster, in broad daylight near Karamana a couple of years ago, heads the spirit lobby in the city. Taking into consideration the bitter relationship between Ambily and Ajith Kumar alias Ammakoru Makan Soju, brother-in-law of Motta Ani, the police suspect that the killing was part of the existing rivalry between the two gangs.
