Samra (Punjab): In an age when joint families are fast becoming a thing of the past, the Singh family, with its 99 members, continues to live under one roof at Samra in Punjab.

"We all live together, share jokes which help us to laugh away our tension and sorrows and inspires us to live long happily," said Jagir Singh, a family member.

Budh Singh, who claims to be 118 years old, is the oldest member of the family. His wife is said to be 112 years old, which make them one of the oldest couples in the world.

Members of the family feel that their belief in old family traditions and close ties, have helped keep the family together through thick an thin.

"In cities one doesn't even know his nearest neighbour. Each member has a separate room but here we live together," said another family member Mewa Singh.

And this unity can be seen, in their day to day life – praying together, cooking together and even on a family outing.
