New Delhi: Rajinikanth mania has reached a feverish pitch with his latest film Sivaji all set for release on Friday. Rajinikanth stopped registering in fan clubs in early ‘90s because the numbers became unmanageable. An actor, whose fan club can rival any political party is considered a demi-god by many. CNN-IBN spoke to a Rajini fan, Bombay Srikanth, who has never missed a Rajinikanth film and watched every movie first day first show.
CNN-IBN: Your name is really intriguing. What is the story behind it?
Bombay Srikanth: Whenever a Rajinikanth film releases, I make a trip to Chennai from Mumbai. I love to see a Rajinikanth movie first day first show. And the person who sponsors my trips is called Mr Rahman, who is a close friend of mine. Since 1988 he has been sponsoring all my trips.
CNN-IBN: You have seen all Rajinikanth films?
Bombay Srikanth: Yes, I have seen all Rajinikanth films first day first show.
CNN-IBN: You are a middle-class executive who works for a private firm. How do you explain this craze for Rajinikanth?
Bombay Srikanth: It is completely unexplainable. The moment I see Rajinikanth on screen I forget everything.
CNN-IBN: What is it about him that intrigues you so much?
Bombay Srikanth: He is electrifying on screen. His films equal 10 times Diwali for us.
CNN-IBN: You have a fan club that has roughly about 60-65 members. Who are these people? Do they cut across castes, states and gender?
Bombay Srikanth: Yes, there are many members who are all working in good companies. But we also make it a point to help poor people. Like now since schools and colleges are reopening after a break we have given books and pencils to the poor students. Even for the opening show of Sivaji, we are trying to arrange tickets for the poor.
CNN-IBN: Have you got your ticket for Sivaji?
Bombay Srikanth: Yes, I spent Rs 1,000 on one ticket and it is a first day first show ticket.
