New Delhi: More than 50,000 devotees witnessed the celestial wedding of Lord Venkateswara with Goddess Padmavathi in Madurai on Saturday.

The wedding had been jointly organised by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) and the Mookambika Educational Trust at the Tamukkam grounds in the city.

Although the TTD has been organising the celestial wedding in various places for the benefit of the devotees, it was for the for the first time that it had been organised in the city.

Among the eminent personalities attending the grand affair were Joint Executive officer of TTD G Balaramiah, city Mayor Tenmozhi Gopinathan, Commissioner of Police A Subramaniam and Gandhi Azhagiri, wife of senior DMK leader M K Azhagiri.
