New Delhi: In a tragic news on Muharram, three blasts have rocked Afghanistan with two blasts occurred outside shrines in Kabul and Mazar-e-Sharif, one at Kandahar leaving at least 54 people dead.

At least 48 people have been reported killed in an explosion at a Kabul shrine, reports said.

The blast came in the city centre where Shias had gathered to carry out religious rituals to mark the day.

Twin blasts were reported at the shrines on the holy day of Ashura killing at least 48 people including children in Kabul and at least four more in the northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif. The blast in central Kabul took place at the entrance to a shrine where Shias had gathered to mark Ashura.

In a statement, Kabul police said, "A suicide bomber detonated his explosives in the Abu-Ul Fazil shrine".

The toll is expected to rise.
