Mumbai: The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has confirmed the use of both RDX and ammonium nitrate in the Mumbai serial blasts.
The ATS said that their investigations have revealed that one of the most sophisticated bombs were used.
Now, CNN-IBN is in possession of the list of the 11 suspects who have been detained for questioning by the Tripura Police for attempting to cross over into Bangladesh in the aftermath of the 7/11 serial blasts.
The men in their 20's and 30's came from Mumbra, which is a minority dominated suburb in Thane district.
Meanwhile, the ATS team has reached Tripura to question suspects. However, there is no confirmation on anyone being brought from Nepal for interrogation.
“Our team has reached Tripura and will question the 11 people and then only will come to any conclusion whether the 11 suspects were involved in the bombings or not,” ATS Chief, Maharashtra, K P Raghuvanshi said.
The group of men allegedly lead by Mohammad Sheik, a former employee of Microsoft who had returned from the US, include men with technical skills like engineers.
But relatives of the alleged suspects in Mumbra say the men had gone for a religious congregation and have no links with any terror groups.
“They had properly informed us before leaving. They were going on behalf of Tableeq-e-Jamaat. Hence they were not doing any illegal work,” brother of Mohd Sheikh, Mobeen Sheikh said.
Though relatives in Mumbra say the men had no links with terror activities, the fact that they were attempting to cross the border into Bangladesh without proper documentation puts a question mark on their motives and points to the fact that there may be more than meets the eye.
But there is another twist in the investigations with the final forensic report in the hands of the ATS.
“The forensic report says that RDX, ammonium nitrate and fuel oil were used in the Mumbai blasts,” Raghuvanshi said.
Stating that investigations are at a critical stage, Raghuvanshi said the blasts were the handiwork of someone "beyond the border" but did not name any organisation.
The fact that the ATS now confirms the use of both RDX and ammonium nitrate, the scope of the investigations has now widened and one wonders how long it will take for the investigations to reach it's final conclusion.
