New Delhi: A 19-year old girl in Delhi has alleged that she was gangraped by three men in Ghaziabad. The girl has alleged that she was gangraped by three men with whom she shared an autorickshaw.
The girl claimed she was taken to an isolated area near Dasna in Ghaziabad and gangraped. The incident took place on March 2. According to her complaint, the autorickshaw changed direction and moved towards Dasna.
The police have filed an FIR and have arrested two men who have been charged with rape, abduction and robbery. This comes even as the Cabinet is likely to discuss new anti-rape laws.
Delhi has witnessed around four rape cases a day in 2013, almost double the rate in 2012, in an indication that crime against women has not abated in the capital despite campaigns and stepped up police action. The city witnessed a total of 181 rapes between January one and February 15, Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran told Rajya Sabha in a written question on Wednesday.
An analysis of figures shows that Delhi witnessed four rapes a day in the capital during this period while the average for 2012 was around two. In 2012, the Delhi Police Annual Report said that 706 rape cases were reported. Last year also saw a 23.43 per cent leap in the number of rape cases compared to 2011 when it registered 572 such incidents in the city.
In the past one week, one gangrape and four rapes have been reported in Delhi.
