New Delhi: A day after blood was spilled on the streets of Lhasa there are tell tale signs that China's crackdown has begun to bite even as the world backs the protestors – at least in words.

Lhasa burning on Chinese state television – the undated pictures bringing the anti-Beijing protests into Chinese homes.

What they don’t show is the after effects of a Chinese crackdown.

On Saturday the streets of Lhasa were empty as a curfew was in place. The Capital tense under the watchful eye of the people's army but relatively quiet.

Only sporadic clashes were reported and none on the scale witnessed on Friday.

Those bloody protests left at least 100 dead according to Tibetans in exile while Beijing put the toll at 10.

Beijing had a tough message for demonstrators - end the protests by Monday midnight or face stern action.

Chinese Vice-Director of the Supreme Court Sun Qian said, “Please believe that the relevant enforcement departments of the Chinese government will properly handle this case in accordance with the law."

Outside of Tibet the protestors were defiant staging a demonstration at the UN headquarter in New York.

Coordinator for students for free Tibet international Kalayan Mendoza said, “The Tibetan communities all over the world and Tibetan support groups want the world to know that the Chinese government is using the Olympics as a political tool to legitimize their claims over Tibet."

Trying to storm the Chinese Embassy in Delhi and trying unsuccessfully to march to the Tibet border in Dharamshala.

Tibetans and their supporters making the long march to Tibet. They are sure to run into confrontation with international politics and real diplomacy.

And the world reacted for the most part. Japan and South Korea were silent but the US, Australia, EU all called for Chinese restraint. Others debunked Beijing's claims that the Dalai Lama and his clique were behind the protests.

However Dalai Lama has now called upon the UN to send its representatives to Tibet.

The parallel between Myanmar and Tibet are striking, peaceful monks taking on authoritarian regimes assisted by ordinary people.
