New Delhi: Thousands of protestors assembled at McLeodganj, the seat of the Tibetan government-in-exile in Himachal Pradesh, on Sunday even as the situation remains grim in Tibet.
They raised anti-China slogans after crossing over from Dehradun to Una district on Sunday morning.
Dalai Lama is scheduled to address the media on Sunday afternoon. The spiritual leader has condemned China in the past; saying brute force will not help solve the Tibet problem.
India has said that it will not allow anti-China protests on Indian soil. The government has said Tibetans are guests in the country and have to abide by Indian law, which means no anti-Chinese activities on Indian soil.
Protests are also taking place in other countries. Hundreds of Tibetans protested outside the Chinese Consulate in New York, London and Zurich on Saturday.
In Lhasa, meanwhile, the situation remains grim with reports saying that the Tibetan capital looks like a ghost town packed with Chinese soldiers.
Chinese authorities have imposed curfew in the Tibetan capital and Beijing has asked pro-Tibet demonstrators to surrender by Monday midnight.
China has issued an ultimatum to the protesters that have held demonstrations for days now: end the violence or face the consequences.
Estimates of those killed in clashes range from 10 to 100.
Tibetan leaders, however, defend the massive protests saying it's a genuine expression of dissent against 50 years of Chinese rule.
"We whole-heartedly support the on-going activities because this is the right of the Tibetans. They are dissatisfied with the Chinese rule. They want the Chinese rule to quit so that the Tibetans can rule on themselves," Karma Chafuel, Speaker, Tibetan Parliament-in-exile, said.
Karma also says that Tibetans are disappointed that the Indian government issued detention orders against the Tibetan marchers.
"We are refugees. You have provided us asylum and we are thankful for that. But now we are saying that we want to go back and you are not letting us. Here the activities are peaceful and we are following the footsteps of Gandhiji," he said.
