Tide of grief hits Suryanarayana home

Hyderabad: The shocking news of the brutal killing of Indian engineer K Suryanarayana on Sunday morning by suspected Taliban militia shattered his family here, who had been hoping for his safe release.

Suryanarayana's wife Manjula slumped as she heard the news of her husband's death, while his mother Ananthalaxmi, who had been bed-ridden for the last few months became hysterical.

The 41-year-old Suryanarayan, a resident of suburban Malkajgiri in Hyderabad, was abducted on Friday from Zabul by suspected Taliban militia. He was working for a Bahrain-based telecom company in the strife-torn Afghanistan.

His daughters Manisha and Anusha, and son Satya Teja were also in a state of shock and were consoled by neighbours and relatives.

A shaken Suryanarayana's brother-in-law Krishna said he suspected that the engineer had been murdered on Friday itself.

Krishna said he had feared for the worst when Suryanarayana's colleagues asked for his identification marks on Friday. They said of the three vehicles gone out to the project site in Zabul, only two had returned.

Friends and relatives who thronged the engineer's East Anand Bagh residence remembered him as a brave person, condemned the incident and termed it as a 'black day'.

Suryanarayana's father Chandrasekhar had made a fervent plea to his son's captors for his release on Saturday.

An inconsolable Manjula said: "They (Talibans) are not human beings. They are 'Narbhakshas' (cannibals)."

Suryanarayana's crestfallen mother said: "Talibans are the worst kind of people. God will punish them one day."
