New Delhi: The Christmas spirit is present not only outside but also inside the Tihar Jail, where inmates are working overtime to bake cakes, bread and cookies.
It is difficult to imagine that those working for the bakery of one of the most highly secured prisons in the country are all convicted felons. They might not know all about Christmas, but the festive spirit here is at an all time high.
"The NGOs are distributing cakes. They have got these cakes prepared in our bakery itself. The Christmas celebrations are on for the last 10 to 12 days," says the Director General of Tihar Jail, BK Gupta.
And it's not just for Christmas, this bakery remains busy throughout the year. "Recently, in our trade fair exhibition, we sold products worth more than Rs 6 lakh. So, the bakery unit is giving us very good profit and the entire tihar prisoners' demands are met by the bakery," adds Gupta.
