Bangalore: Powerful delegations from the around the world visit Bangalore to learn the secret of its success in technology. On Thursday, the visitors were from a place nearby.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and Information Technology Minister Dayanidhi Maran led a seven-member delegation learn about Bangalore's success story and to woo the IT industry to Tamil Nadu.
"The CM has made this visit to take a look at the miracle that has taken place in the IT capital of India and also replicate that miracle in Tamil Nadu,” Maran said.
The team visited Wipro and Infosys and presented plans to develop Madurai, Coimbatore, Tirunalveli and Tiruchirapalli.
Karunanidhi said he was keen to formulate an IT policy which would boost jobs in Tamil Nadu.
"The Chief Minister has requested that we look at other cities also. We will do that definitely . We have to study which is the right place,” said COO Infosys Technologies, Kris Gopalakrishnan.
"We're interested in expanding in Tamil Nadu and are waiting for some land allocation there to be able to accelerate that expansion,” said Chairman, Wipro, Azim Premji.
In Hosur, close to the Karnataka border, the Tamil Nadu government wants to set up an IT park. It has already commissioned consulting company, Frost & Sullivan to do a feasibility study on the project.
Hosur's proximity to Bangalore makes it the ideal location to have an IT park. And with Bangalore's IT industry keen to expand, this may be the most promising investment that the Tamil Nadu government can make in this sector.
But the decision may ruffle a few feathers as it can put additional strain on Bangalore's already crumbling infrastructure.
Hosur Road has been developed well over the past two years. By the time the IT park comes up in Hosur, it will become a bustling precinct, but Tamil Nadu will rake in the taxes.
