New Delhi: Even with the Centre entangled in the Ram Setu controversy, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has expressed his anger about the Congress' turnaround on the existence of Lord Ram, claiming it is just a figment of imagination.

"They (UPA Government) first said Ram was a fiction of public imagination and then the next day they've refuted that claim. What kind of self-respecting Government would do that? Ram is a myth - it was an Aryan God imposed upon the Dravidians. They (UPA Government) have said Ram was an imaginary person and now they've backtracked on that claim,” Karunanidhi lashed out.

From no Ram to Jai Shri Ram, the Government has done a U-turn and tried to control the political damage caused by the ASI affidavit earlier this week on the so-called Ram Setu.

The Centre had on Friday withdrawn two affidavits from the Supreme Court, including the one which said there was no scientific evidence to establish the existence of Lord Ram and the Ram Setu.

The Government also suspended two senior ASI officials, including a director and an assistant director, over the controversy.

Within the Congress, hard politicking is on and Union Culture Minister Ambika Soni could just become the scapegoat the party needs, with her ministerial colleague Jairam Ramesh indicating that he wants her to resign over the blunder.
