Chennai: An attempt to murder two government officials was caught on tape in Kanyakumari.
Twenty days later, employees of Tamil Nadu's Highways Department are out on the streets. Over 1,000 of them are on a one day fast, a fast to show that they are angry because the police are yet to arrest the main suspect in the case.
Neither the police, nor the government is taking their concern seriously.
Highways Engineers Association General Secretary, E Venkatachalam says, "Neither has the suspect been arrested nor has the government called us to talk and find out what we need to avert such incidents in the future."
The main suspect in the case is a man named Senthil Kumar who drove the car that ran over the two Highways Department engineers. The engineers, following a court order, were demolishing parts of a temple that is an encroachment on the highway.
Senthil is the son of a priest at the temple. He abandoned the car and escaped after the attack and the police are still clueless as to his whereabouts.
The attempt to murder caught on tape was a shocking expose. What's perhaps even worse is that 20 days later, the perpetrators of the crime are still at large.
