New Delhi: A day after it was reported that 15-year-old Dhileepan Raj, a Class X student in Tamil Nadu, had performed a caesarean operation successfully, the state Health Secretary V K Subburaj has said the government will take action against Dhileepan and his parents.
“We have come to know of the incident and an inquiry has been ordered into it. Once we get the report, we will see if there are any violations. Prima facie it looks like a violation so we will take action against the doctor and the person who did it,†said Subburaj.
The operation by the 15-year-old has thrown the medical fraternity into a tizzy.
Dhileepan's father, Dr Murugesan, had allegedly showed a CD of the operation to doctors of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and argued that his son had performed the surgery under his watchful eye.
He claimed his son had done this for the sake of a record but later he issued a statement saying that he had performed the operation while his son had watched out of curiosity.
Doctors, though, are angry and want stern action to be taken against Dhileepan's father and mother Gandhimathy, a gynaecologist, for violating not just the law but also the ethics of the profession.
The Tamil Nadu police has said the IMA or the state Medical Association is in a better position to take strict action against the parents.
