Chennai: The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) supporters in India are making news.
P Nedumaran, head of the Pro-LTTE Tamil National movement was arrested by the police in Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu.
He was to leave for Jaffna through the Palk Strait on Wednesday.
The TNM leader was planning to lead a team carrying food, medicines and other essential items for civilians in LTTE-dominated areas of Sri Lanka.
This, after the Indian Red Cross refused to carry supplies that his organisation had collected for the Tamils there. But the boatmen at Nagapattinam refused to carry the group across to Sri Lanka.
Nedumaran and the team members sat on a fast, only to be arrested later.
Meanwhile, Sri Lankan government sources have told CNN-IBN that relief is being provided to the affected Tamils in Jaffna and more help if required would be sought from the Indian government.
