"I would advice the PM to be careful while choosing his friends. Look at what happened to Shinzo abe or John Howrad or Blair or Bush's trusted ally Musharraf.”
New Delhi: That was CPI-M General Secretary Prakash Karat implicating Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as Bush's “poodle” much like the recently retired Tony Blair.
And therefore, the cold war over the nuclear deal continues with Left letting loose a volley of uncharitable words for the Prime Minister. Nevermind the temporary ceasefire that has been arrived at after painful negotiations, the CPI-M knows its endgame.
Days before N-deal negotiator Kakodkar leaves for Vienna and the Government indicating that safeguards agreement with the IAEA could be safely taken up on the sidelines, Karat has sent a reminder to the Government.
"We are very clear. We will not be around when this government operationalises the deal,” he said.
It is now clear that both the Left and the Government are just going through the motions while attending the panel meetings set up to look into Left concerns and that the mechanism is simply an excuse to buy time.
